I’ve had experts explain trackbacks. I’ve read various explanations of blogging trackbacks, such as this on Wikipedia. But for quite a while I found it a challenge to bridge the gap between the theory, which I understood well enough, early enough (it’s not rocket-science), and the practice.
I think it’s the nature of the blogosphere that there are always new things competing for our attention. But I did figure out early on that trackbacks were one element of the blogging process that it made sense to get a handle on and apply effectively.

Just from looking at the list of speakers and their credentials, I know there will be some serious downloading of up to date information and lots of sparking of ideas at the first BlogHer Business event in New York City, March 22-23. BlogHer Business is a spinoff from the hugely successful BlogHer conferences held over the past […]

I was surprised to read today that the just-announced Best of Brit Blog Awards, which has categories for Arts and Entertainment, Fashion, Sport, Politics, Travel, Technology, Youth, and Weird and Wonderful, has no Business category.
The well-established Weblog Awards, which my guess is are run from North America, has a Best Business Blog category. MarketingSherpa’s Top 10 Best Blogs […]

An excellent resource for anyone wanting to keep abreast of what is happening in the business blogging world is the Business Blog Roundup, a frequent item on the (US) National Association of Manufacturers’ shopfloor.org Daily Blog.
These posts by Michael Zak are basically summaries, with little or no added commentary, so you can zip through them […]

One of the main sessions at ad:tech Sydney a couple of weeks ago featured an expert panel whose members were a lot younger than those on the other panels. Brian Clark, author of Copyblogger.com, which like this blog is part of the b5media network, describes himself as a recovering attorney. Which figures - he has a lawyer’s love of language.
He also writes directly and to the point.
For example, in the intriguingly titled post Let Cicero Build You a Sticky Blog, where he comments on the necessity of making […]

Alert: some shameless self-promotion here. But hopefully not without utility for readers of this blog.
This is the story. After quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, I am finally underway with my new focus on podcasting. Not before time: I’d encouraged enough people to think about doing podcasts, but had not taken it on properly myself.
The […]

For anyone with a role, or simply a desire, to promote the introduction of blogging - or, more generally, social software - into an enterprise, large or small, or with the responsibility of actually doing the implementation, Mike Spofforth provides a must-read, ten point checklist in his post Lessons Learned From Social Software Implementations.
Mike is reflecting […]

It seems to me that in business, as in life generally, when we raise a subject there is often an expectation that we have a complete statement in mind, or our own answer to a problem we raise. And if that’s so, it probably inhibits a lot of thoughtful people from airing their surmises and their questions. Which for […]

Blogging can be fun, especially if you like sharing information and your opinions with others.
For some of us, it can also be a drag at times. What will I post about today? Hasn’t everyone covered that topic? Didn’t I write something about that six months ago?
You need to love it. If not at the beginning, […]
