Blog Help For Small Business
Easton Ellsworth has launched a new series of posts offering blog help for small business.
Going by the first post of the series, Small Business Blog Help, Part 1: What Is A Business Blog? this will be a series not to be missed.
One of the gems in the post is an untangling of the various meanings attached to the phrase “small business blog” and similar phrases. Easton lists six different meanings. Each meaning is fine in context, but without this sort of clarification the average owner of small business would be justified in feeling a bit confused. The distinct meanings Easton lists for the term “a small business blog” are:
- About a specific small business
- By a small business owner or employee
- For a small business, but not about it
- About a topic related to small business
- Geared toward a “small business” audience.
- By an individual looking to make a full-time living off of online publishing
(And it occurred to me that if you changed “small business” to “corporate” that list would probably work well also for big business.)
As Easton says, there can be a degree of overlap in the meanings. His focus in the series is on “small business blogs as tools for small businesses to promote their own products or services”.
He also lists some of his favorite experts on the subject of small business blogging. I was naturally pleased to see my own name there and a link to my Thinking Home Business blog. I was also pleased to see that all the other people listed are on my own fan list and their blogs listed in my feed reader.
