Blogging and PR: Six Principles to Live By

(businessandblogging.com) The purpose of this post is to give you the “how to” of making blogging work for your business. There are six principles that you must implement when you develop a business
blog. I call them the six
be(e)s of business blogging:

  1. Be there. Show up. Post regularly. Develop a posting schedule, whether it’s daily or weekly. Develop a blogging schedule and stick to it.
  2. Be real. Don’t just cut and paste your company sales brochure or your press releases into your blog. Add your own thoughts.
  3. Be responsive. Answer comments honestly. If a comment requires a more than a few sentences to respond to, then create a post about it instead. This is part of the reason that you have a business blog.
  4. Be honest. Don’t make something up. If you do, then I guarantee that you will be discovered. The results will be worse than if you never started blogging.
  5. Be patient. It takes times to build relationships through blogging. You wouldn’t expect a friendship to develop overnight – neither will a customer relationship.
  6. Be relevant. It’s great to add in some personal stuff to help the customers get to know, but make sure that you also include material that they care about.

As you prepare to start your business blog, look over the previous list. Read it a couple of times so that you really know it. What areas will you struggle with? How can you improve in those areas?

Get a handle on the list and then get going. Start your business blog.
