Coffee Break

Happy Memorial Day weekend! It’s time for this week’s coffee break.

I know that many of you are headed out to picnics and other celebrations (I know that I am), so I’ll keep it short.

  • Sometimes business blogs get it right. Marshall Kirkpatrick at ReadWriteWeb has found nine company blogs that are fun for anyone to read. (He even explains what works at each blog.) Take a look and see how your business blog measures up.
  • Dawud Miracle is setting the record straight about businesses and blogging. A well-thought out discussion of where blogs should (and should not) fit into the business model. This is a must-read for anyone with a business blog, or who is thinking about adding a business blog.
  • I found this post by Brad Shorr about what blogging will look like in 2012 fascinating. It’s a discussion between two industry professionals and it paints two very different pictures of the future of blogging. What do you think blogging will look like in four years?
  • What do you do when you receive criticism on, or about, your business blog? Do you know how to handle it? Chris Garrett does and his post, When to Answer Critics, is a great guide for any blogger (business, or otherwise) that finds themself facing criticism.
  • We’ve talked about the importance of online reputation management at Business and Blogging before. Well, it seems that Andy Beal has released an online reputation monitoring tool and Darren Rowse, over at ProBlogger, has reviewed it.
  • Liz Strauss has published a guest post from Becky McCray on the importance of social networking for small, local, businesses. If “small” and “local” are words that can be used to describe your business, then you may want to take a look at this post.

Happy Memorial Day to all of our readers!

Brad pointed me to his post (well worth reading) after visiting this weekend’s Writers Cafe at Grow Your Writing Business.

Coincidentally, the Writers Cafe topic was in a similar vein and sparked a very lively discussion.

One thing that was tossed around was whether the word blog would still be around in the future, or whether it would be called something else.

Hi Laura, thanks for mentioning me in your recap. Marshall’s post is very welcome because case studies are one of the best ways to get companies interested in starting a blog. Yvonne’s post and on a related topic is definitely worth checking out.
