Future of Media Summit 2007, San Francisco and Sydney

by Des Walsh on July 16th, 2007

This time last year I had the privilege of participating in the Future of Media Summit, organized by Ross Dawson’s Future Exploration Network (FEN) and held simultaneously in Sydney and San Francisco. My recollection of having enjoyed the event was reinforced just now when I re-read the comment I emailed to Ross the following day, as displayed now on the FEN blog -

Thank you very much for the Summit yesterday. It was a buzzzzzzzzzz! This was a truly impressive lineup of bright, highly informed, entertaining people, who gave great value.

Yes, it was a great buzz and one of the many good features was the Future of Media Report, produced to coincide with the event and since downloaded over 70,000 times.

On this Tuesday July 17 San Francisco time and Wednesday July 18 Sydney time the event is on again, bigger and better from the look of the program and again being run on a trans-Pacific basis, simultaneously in Sydney and Silicon Valley and linked by video. There is an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists, covering a broad range of issues:

  • Insights into the future of media
  • User generated content meets mainstream media
  • Strategy discussions
  • Exploring new business models
  • Tapping the power of influence networks
  • Global strategies for media
  • Mobility, shifting and new media channels

There is also a new Future of Media Report, available for download now.

The Report includes:

  • Eight Developments in Media July 06 of June 07
  • Shifting Global Advertising Channels
  • Comparison of Fastest Growing Properties and Internet Access
  • Key Elements of Media Business Models
  • Media Industry Network Analysis
  • Media Transactions

Lots of juicy data, and some very perceptive commentary and - as you would expect from the Future Exploration Network - some interesting future-gazing.

One of the things I love about Ross Dawson’s reports is that he has lots of graphics to illustrate the frameworks and indicators he covers in the text.

It’s also impressive that this Report, like others produced by FEN, is covered by a Creative Commons licence, which allows anyone to post it, use it and build on it as they please, as long as there is attribution with a link to the Report directly or to the Future of Media Summit blog.
