iUpload Not Just Another Blogging Platform
Some time ago, courtesy of Paul Chaney, now VP Marketing at Blogging Systems, I learnt about iUpload, which provides a very interesting set of tools for online business, collaboration and community-building.
I know now that I did not really pay close attention, perhaps because I was focused at the time on figuring out which of the commonly discussed, no cost or low cost blogging platforms or services would in my opinion be most helpful for small and very small, “micro” businesses. So I was looking at the likes of WordPress.org, Typepad, Squarespace and BlogHarbor. My recollection is that I thought iUpload did not quite fit the profile I was looking at - anyway, the fact is I did not look into iUpload then in any detail.
Then recently, when a colleague was looking for a blogging platform which would provide blogs and various tools for interaction for a membership site, I recalled iUpload, took another look, and made direct contact via email. They were quick to reply and keen to demonstrate their products. Which in these days of often unanswered emails impressed me.
I found them a very interesting company, in terms especially of the way they see blogs fitting into a broader picture of communication, interaction, collaboration and community building. And when I sat in on a webinar to demonstrate their products, I was even more impressed with both their attention to the business context and their fluency in addressing specific issues about blogging and social media generally.
While I have not actually driven the machinery, iUpload looks to me like a product any reasonably sized company, or any company reasonably ambitious to use the online space, should investigate. The product range includes a neat free personal blog setup.
The online summary of their product offerings is:
The iUpload Application Suite consists of four applications that make it easy to create, manage and distribute all types of web content.
Whether you are an individual looking to share information with friends, family, coworkers and colleagues on a blog site; an organization or community looking to engage and manage hundreds or even thousands of bloggers; or a corporation needing to look after your web properties with all the inherent demands for structure, workflow, reporting, versioning and control; iUpload has the platform to addresses your requirements seamlessly.
While that might read like any number of promotional statements, it fits with what I saw demonstrated.
Besides which, their client list suggests that their products are to be taken very seriously.
I was particularly pleased to hear about and see demonstrated the sort of administrative tools and minimally obtrusive controls they can build in to a client’s setup, so as to provide much greater comfort than most other blogging platforms I know of can do, on issues such as confidentiality of information for intranet type blogging networks and legal liability for what is posted on a company blog.
These are hosted services, which might not appeal to those who like to download and install their own software and enjoy getting under the hood and tinkering. But for businesses which want a scalable and robust system with the machinery in someone else’s care, iUpload might be a good choice.
You can register on their home page to attend a webinar, which I highly recommend - I found the whole story much easier to understand once I’d done that.

The iUpload Customer Conversation System illustrated in wheel fashion above might look unduly complicated, but when it was explained, with examples, in the webinar, I found it all made great good sense.
Of course, many businesses will not see themselves as wanting something as apparently complicated as this, but there is a lot to be said for building a good foundation, whether with a physical building, or an online presence.
