No Business Blogs in New Brit Awards, Irish Take Up the Slack
I was surprised to read today that the just-announced Best of Brit Blog Awards, which has categories for Arts and Entertainment, Fashion, Sport, Politics, Travel, Technology, Youth, and Weird and Wonderful, has no Business category.
The well-established Weblog Awards, which my guess is are run from North America, has a Best Business Blog category. MarketingSherpa’s Top 10 Best Blogs and Best Podcast event has a stack of business-focused categories.
So why no Business Blog category in the Best of Brit awards? Presumably it’s either an oversight or it indicates that business blogging has not caught on sufficiently in Britain to be an obvious category for these awards.
It’s a different story across the Irish Sea where the Irish Blog Awards are to be announced on March 3 and there is a Business Blog category.
Finalists in the business category are a diverse bunch and worth a look to see what different types of business blogs there can be and different styles among business bloggers:
Allagi - A quite sophisticated site in its structure and very readable - Ann Green’s Allagi Consulting’s mission is “Changing the business world through high performing teams”.
Argolon - Argolon Consulting builds software solutions - very much a tech-focused site: couldn’t work out who the “I” of the posts is but directors of the company are Catherine 0′Neill and Conor O’Neill, so I guess one of them.
Ask Direct - Damien O’Broin has the Ask Direct consulting company, specialising in marketing and fund-raising in the non-profit sector: elegant blog and informative (and in design terms an interesting variation on the K2 WordPress theme).
Ice Cream Ireland - Kieran Murphy in Dingle describes himself as “an Irish ice cream man and chocoholic”: various posts suggest he is more than a keen consumer and is in the ice cream business, so I’m guessing his business aim with this blog is to position himself as (in blog consultant speak) the Irish ice cream industry thought leader - lively and mouth-watering would have to be my verdict on this blog.
Krishna De’s BizGrowth News - a favourite blog of mine, where blogger Krishna De posts informatively and wisely about brand building and business development in professional service firms: an elegantly designed, very readable blog ”configured by The Blog Coach”, a.k.a. UK based Mark White. I picked up the Best of Brit Blog Awards story from Krishna De’s post on the Irish awards.
Security Watch - IT security expert, Brian Honan, writes about cybercrime, spam and other issues of fundamental importance for all of us to be able to keep doing all this blogging and other online activity. Classic plain WordPress blog.
