Small Business Blog Review: Get Some Hairapy!
Today, I’m offering another post in our series of small business blog reviews. In this series, we’ve been taking a look at some effective blogging techniques of small to medium-sized blogs.
I found the Get Some Hairapy blog through a comment that the blog’s owner, Aura Mae, left on the Performancing blog. The business behind the blog is the Azarra Salon.
The Get Some Hairapy blog is a great example of what a small business owner can do with a blog.
What I particularly like about this blog is that it does not come across as a blatant marketing tool. Rather, a visit to Get Some Hairapy is sort of like having a chat with your hairdresser.
Aura Mae shares her recipes, her musical taste, her take on the latest gossip, and so on . . .
Yeah, the blog supports a hair salon and there are posts about hair:
- Perms are not evil!
- Upcoming trends in haircolor - or - NAHA finalists announced
- Which came first: the hot hair or the self-confidence?
But, they don’t come across as marketing posts, by which I mean they don’t scream “come to my hair salon!” Rather, they are presented as just another extension of the blogger’s personality.
As it should be . . .
The blogger leaves me with the impression that I know her and that she is someone who could know me.
If I lived nearby, would I visit this salon?
Definitely!
And, isn’t that what it’s all about?

Thanks so much for your kind words! I am on my way to a hair show to teach a class to other small salon owners. One of the topics we will be discussing is using technology to market. Small salons don’t have big marketing budgets and a blog is a great (cheap!) way to share the brand with potential customers. The goal of the salon blog is twofold: to allow potential customers get a feel for the place, and to extend the salon experience (reinforce the brand) to existing customers. I think it is easily the most effective marketing tool I have ever used as a small business owner. Like I say in my class: a blog is like a website and a newsletter, but cheaper and easier!
