Business and Blogging

The Best Laid Plans …

by Des Walsh on January 10th, 2007

There I was with my New Year resolution to post here more frequently and consistently.

I reckoned without a couple of things.

First, all the details to be attended to in publishing an audiobook, comprising a DVD to be shipped and an e-book to be made available for secure download.  The good news is that the Big Biller audiobook, co-authored by Bill Vick and yours truly, is shipping today, so that’s one challenge that has been met. But my blogging has suffered.

Then yesterday I had a call that a good friend of mine had died. As well as coping personally with the impact of the news, there was time taken up from calling other mutual friends. And tomorrow I fly interstate for the day, for the funeral.

So what does this have to do with business and blogging? Well, there’s clearly a challenge in being frequent and consistent in posting, given the propensity of other matters to intrude. And if, as with this blog, there is only one author whose attention is currently elsewhere, being “covered for” is not a realistic option.

What would make sense is to write in advance some posts on matters which are not date-dependent, for posting at times like this.  I’ve found some business owners quite interested to learn that WordPress and other blogging tools provide for that. All it really takes is a bit of pre-planning and organization.

But for now, I’ll just have to resolve to do better in future.
